Eco-Friendly Material
PRODUCT DETAIL
As the application of plastic products becomes more diversified, the generation rate of plastic waste also increases; it is estimated that at least 12 million tons of plastic waste enter the ocean every year, and the pollution of the environment is becoming more and more serious. Betec has started looking for alternatives to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and put a lot of resources and energy into development. For global environmental protection issues, Betec provides three solutions:
I. The source of raw materials or total replacement of petroleum fuels with bio-sourced is the so-called bio-based composite material.
II. Self-degradable materials-Composite processing with self-degradable materials is the so-called biodegradable composite material.
III. Recycling and reusing plastic waste – using waste plastics recycled by third-party manufacturers, processing, and re-manufacturing are the so-called recycled materials.
Eco-Friendly material
BIO-BASED MATERIALS
Bio-based materials are derived from renewable fuels, such as corn, sugar cane, cassava, etc. These raw materials contain high sugar or starch content and can be fermented into bio-based polymers or fermented to produce bio-based chemicals and then further polymerized into polymers.
BIODEGRADABLE PLASTIC
Biodegradable polymers can be derived from bio-based or traditional petroleum-based polymers as long as they can be decomposed under natural or appropriate conditions. The current international standard is that more than 90% of its organic carbon must be decomposed into carbon dioxide within six months and be non-toxic.
RECYCLED PLASTIC
The source of recycled plastics is mainly the recycling of marine waste, industrial plastics, and consumer plastics; after the impurities are filtered and re-pulled by the recycling plant, they are processed by the compounding plant and made into usable recycled materials.
Bio-based materials
The difference between bio-based and traditional materials is that some ingredients use renewable biomass such as grains, legumes, straw, bamboo, and wood powder as raw materials, which are converted into chemical monomers and further polymerized into polymer materials.
Compared with traditional polymer materials, bio-based materials have two advantages:
-
Some or all bio-based materials are derived from biomass fuels, effectively reducing people’s use and dependence on fossil fuels.
-
The carbon emissions generated during the production process of bio-based materials are much lower than those of traditional materials.
With the growing development of bio-based materials, the types and specifications of bio-based materials are also more diversified; Betec has long been committed to the research and development of various bio-based materials in the field of engineering plastics, recommending materials for customers’ applications, not only helping customers reduce the carbon footprint of end products, and at the same time contribute to the sustainable management of the environment.
Biodegradable plastic
Biodegradable plastics, also known as green plastics, are characterized in that they can be metabolized and decomposed by microorganisms in the environment under certain environmental conditions (sufficient humidity, oxygen, and appropriate organisms), and the decomposed products (i.e., water, carbon dioxide, methane, etc.) make the harm to the environment much less.
Betec has long regarded environmental protection as its responsibility, and it is also the focus of development to which Betec pays attention. Betec combines the existing composite material technology with the characteristics of biodegradable plastics to develop biodegradable modified materials with good dyeability, easy processability, and disposable decomposition, widely used in household products, outdoor products, and structural housing materials.
In addition, Betec also noticed that as survival games become more and more popular, the use of BB bullets is increasing daily. These BB bullets scattered on the soil will not disappear by themselves but will seep into the soil with rainwater, poison the land, be absorbed by plants, and eventually return to human bodies along the food chain. To improve this situation, Betec started to develop and launch a new product, “Biodegradable polymer material for BB bullets”, so that enjoying survival games no longer has to be equated with causing pollution to the environment.
Recycled materials
With the increasing use of plastic products, the output of plastic waste is also increasing day by day; for such materials that are difficult to decompose naturally, artificial treatment and recycling have gradually become a trend. GRS certification is one of the certifications for recycled materials.
GRS certification, full name Global Recycled Standard, is an international general and voluntary product specification requirement standard; to obtain GRS certification, products must contain at least 20% certified recycled materials and be 100% pollution-free. In addition to the source of raw materials, GRS regulates corporate social responsibility, controlling environmental pollution during production and using toxic chemicals.
Betec has long been committed to the development of composite projects of recycled materials and regards the physical and mental health of employees and the sustainable development of the environment as the priority; therefore, Betec started applying at the end of 2021 and obtained the GRS certification in early 2022.
